Apple pushed out an update to its free iTunes program (8.2.1) that fixed, among other things, a “verification” program with Apple devices. The Internets are reporting that this update all but killed the Pre’s chance to sync with iTunes.
I’m not sure what was the better tactic. (A) Shouting from the rooftops that you can sync with iTunes, knowing that Apple would do everything in its power to break you, or (B) Quietly letting people know that you can sync with iTunes, knowing that Apple would break you, but it wouldn’t be a first priority.
Palm went with choice (A). What I don’t like about that choice is there could have been a bunch of people induced to buy the Pre for this function and now it doesn’t work. Of course, these hapless folks are now outside of any return period (which may be why Apple waited this long for the update – they can be mean like that), and I’m waiting to hear the backlash on Palm for this little exchange.
Regardless, get an iPhone. They’re better.
